Tutoring/Homework Center Committee

-We first defined the task using the program review document
Determine the feasibility of establishing homework or tutoring center to
help student achievement
- Brainstormed a list of suggestions for a homework center and funding possibilities:
- on site
- off site
- during the day
- nights
- weekends
- Mrs. Kooy currently meets students at public library (2hr. on Saturday)
and has volunteer help
- Guided study halls (students assigned)
- Subject area tutors available during the day
- Student mentoring
- Sterling township money for high school student tutors to tutor other students

- Americorps
- Community service requirement (National Honor Society)
- Sauk providing tutors (may have a program coming soon)
- ROE - do they have any programs or resources
- Title 1 funds
- Junior/Seniors with an open hour - give an independent study credit to tutor
during study hall
- e-mail or phone-in homework help (staff with volunteers)
- encourage student sign up for free/reduced lunch (send home form to all)

Other Issues-
How do we get students who need the help to ask for it?
-math tutor as a model example, all levels are seeking help
-different subject areas have different needs for tutoring
Short discussion on teacher led study hall. Discipline issues are less than
last year.
