J. Mark Beaty volunteered to be chairman and Bonnie Groharing
volunteered to be the scribe.
The former "Adopt a Kid" program was discussed. Mark will check with
Connie Doty and Elisa Gatz and Fran will check with her husband about
this program. We are looking for guidelines, success stories, and reasons
for its demise.
Similar programs in place in other schools were discussed. Bonnie will
check with Rock Falls High School and Rebecca will check with Kewanee
High School for information on their programs.
Possible sources of funding to be explored are township funds and grants.
Mark will talk to Dave Barajas and Matt Howze.
It was felt that participation should be open to all students, not limited to
freshman. All staff, including custodians, will be included as possible
mentors. We thought CWT or work training employers might wish to
participate. Alan will talk to Max and Rebecca will talk to Liz and Nancy to
see if there is anything in their guidelines that would prohibit this. We need
to set some parameters for the program before recommendation forms or
guidelines can be developed.
Mark will talk to Mike McCoy about offering a school service credit for
seniors who become mentors.
Jerry stated that the office could provide mentors with grades and weekly
attendance reports of their mentees.
