Committee notes - 8/29/02
The committee discussed the following:
· The need to determine current state codes for daycare facilities. (square footage per child,
exits, child bathrooms, number of care providers, etc.)
· Past and present statistics of student pregnancies.
· The possibility of incorporating a Parenting class into the daycare for student mothers.
· Having a staff mentor for the student mothers.
· Requiring student mothers to spend their lunch hours with their child(ren).
· Looking into other schools/districts that offer child care centers. (Rock Island, Deerfield)
· Possible sites for the facility: health room, current receiving area, WACC, nearby real estate,
2nd floor gym, Building Trades building a facility. (All dependent upon state requirements)
· Conferences available to attend regarding school daycare centers.
· The option of student fathers being able to spend time with their child in the center. If father
attends different school, possibility of taking a vocational Parenting class for 1 hr./day.
· Will there be a contract issue/grievance with elementary staff not being able to use the center
while high school staff will. Talked about the high school staff with children at the center
being the mentors for the students, as mentioned above.
For Next Meeting...

look into any conferences and government grants available.
· Chris Ducoing will compile statistics on student pregnancies and students with children, as
accurately as possible.
· Tom DePasquale will look into other schools that offer these services.
