The current plan to improve attendance was discussed. This included: Posting of attendance percent by grade level, Post perfect attendance by number of students, Pride card drawing from perfect attendance list of students. The goal for Freshman, Sophomores and Juniors is 90% or greater in order to have an open campus at lunch time next year. The Senior goal is 90% or better in order to get out of school earlier than the day before graduation.
Discussion was held of lunch schedules and practices at other high schools. We discussed our current practice for recording attendance. The use of computer programs to do attendance at SHS was talked about and how this may actually improve attendance due to better and faster record keeping.
Discussion was held on parking and the ability to monitor students leaving school. An award system for good attendance was mentioned, as was the idea of setting up standards or criteria for calling students off from school. An example of this would be a requirement of a Dr. note for Dr. appointments.
It was asked if attendance could be done at the end of the hour. It was thought this could save time especially due to tardies.
The last part was about a perfect attendance incentive of not taking a final if the perfect criteria were met.
