Program Review: Study Skills Committee: September 4, 2002
Discussion continued regarding the Study Skills as implemented into the Flex curriculum.
The Program Review States 3 improvement activities:
1. To expand study skills into the Flex curriculum.
This was done beginning last year (sy2001-2002) Counselors twice presented a 7 topic unit for students to learn more about study skills. For SY2002-2003, a 1/2 credit study skills course is part of the bridge program. Consideration is being given to the possibility of expanding this course to other Flex students as well.
2. To meet with lead teachers to revise the Flex curriculum to include the integration of
study skills.
The lead teachers and the Flex staff are to meet in order to accomplish this activity.
3. Create a study skills elective credit for bridge students in the Flex program.
This has been accomplished.
Further discussion covered the inclusion of study skills across the general curriculum. How are study skills used in each subject, which skills particularly apply for specific courses, and how lead teachers can further design/refine the FLEX study skills curriculum to tailor departmental needs were covered.
