Student Mentoring Committee
December 4, 2002
Members present: Fran Bishop, Chris Dilly, Janet Freed, Bonnie Groharing, Rebecca Koerner, Allan Pugeda, John Van Fleet
Members absent: J. Mark Beaty, Molly Goff
Janet Freed reported that the representative from the U of I was unable to be present at this meeting, but will come to the next one. She will be contacted as soon as we know our early out committee meeting schedule for next semester.
Items discussed were:
· We need help from the U of I with curriculum before we can proceed with the proposal.
· The Lettermen's Club and National Honor Society members may want to use mentoring for their service points.
· Training may need to be done in the summer so we will be ready when school starts. Role-playing is a valuable training tool.
· Five group meetings should be held, a fall kickoff and one at the end of each quarter.
· Possible evaluation tools are statistics on attendance and extra curricular participation among the mentees and a questionnaire at the end of the year.
· Recommendations from Challand could be sought for freshmen that would profit from the mentoring program.
Allan furnished treats.
