During the 2008-2009 academic year all elementary students in the Sterling Schools CUSD #5 and Rock Falls School District Number #13 will benefit from multiple school wide counseling and prevention programs.

These schools include: Mission Statement: The mission of CUSD #5 School Counseling Department is to provide all students with a comprehensive, developmental guidance and counseling program. The program is centered on engaging curriculum and services that encourage the highest level of achievement through student growth in academic, personal/social, and career competencies. As the student advocates, school counselors partner with other educators, parents, and community members to create a caring environment in which all students may become responsible learners and decision makers as they prepare for the future. Philosophy: The counselors in the CUSD #5 believe: · All students can learn · All students have dignity and worth · All students have the right to participate in the school counseling program · All students’ differences and special needs are considered in planning and implementing the counseling programs The CUSD#5 school counseling program should: · Be an integral part of the total educational program · Be comprehensive in scope, preventative in design, and developmental in nature · Be based on specific standards and developmental student competencies for all students K-12 · Be developed, coordinated, and implemented in association with other schools, parents/guardians, and community representatives · Use data to drive program development, evaluation, and improvement All counselors in the CUSD#5 will: · Abide by the professional school counseling ethics as advocated by the American School Counselor Association · Abide by the District and State’s Social Emotional Learning Standards · Participate in professional development activities essential to maintain a quality school counseling program
