Much of the North American grassland was turned into farmland in the early 1900s. Many animals like bison and deer were hunted to near extinction.
Nearly 1/4 of the Earth's land is grassland. But most of the U.S. wild grassland is gone. Because the soil is so fertile, most grasslands have been made into farms.
