Homework
Homework provides students with opportunities to deepen
understanding & skills.
It allows class time for hands-on activities and group
work.
Parents, please read these expectations with your child.
For success with homework, she or he needs:
- A place to
do homework. If possible, your child should do homework in
the same place- an uncluttered, quiet place to study.
- A schedule
for completing homework. Set a homework schedule that fits with each week's
particular activities.
- Encouragement,
motivation, and prompting. It is not a good idea to sit with your child and
do homework with him. He needs to practice independently and to apply what
he as learned in class. If your child cannot complete homework assignments
alone, please contact me.
- Understanding
of knowledge. When your child is practicing a skill or working
on a project, ask her to tell you about it.
- Reasonable
time expectations. Although there might be exceptions, as a general
rule, a quick method to determine average total nightly homework time: grade
(7) X 10 = 70 min. For about every 30 minutes of "additional"
homework a student does per night, his or her overall grade point average
(GPA) increases about half a point. (Kieth,
T.Z. (1982) Journal of Educational Psychology, 74(2), 248-253.)
- A bedtime.
When it is time to go to bed, please stop your child, even it he has not
finished the homework.
